About Karta Khalsa

Hometown

Karta Khalsa, born and raised in Tennessee, has an extensive movement background, including advanced training in contemporary dance, ballet, and yoga. She has lived and danced all over the world, from India to Los Angeles, but in the last five years she and her husband have found Portland to be their home. In 2007, Karta was first introduced to the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® in order to rehab an injury while in college. After that brief introductory experience, she returned to the practice in 2011 to pursue GYROTONIC® Level 1 certification. While her teaching journey was interrupted by a few years battling Lyme Disease, this experience provided compassion and patience to her teaching, which her client’s benefit from today. Karta works daily to find the precious balance of doing and being, working and resting, effort and ease. She brings an inspiring and exuberant energy to her sessions, and enjoys helping her clients find the freedom and joy within the body’s inherent movement capacity. She structures her sessions uniquely for each client, adjusting and accommodating for various goals, skill levels, injuries, or illness. She helps clients return to their own body’s natural movement patterns, increase strength, decrease pain, and feel great within their being. Karta’s fascination with the body, the mind, and their relationship is endless, and she is ignited by the excitement of sharing this!
